Character Counts

Character Counts Education is currently taught to Ely students in grades 3-8. The goal in the next year is to incorporate these lessons to ALL grades K-12.

Character Counts! is a celebration of the values that form the core of this program: The Six Pillars of Character plus good decision-making.

Respect – Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule. Be understanding of differences. Use good manners, not bad language. Be considerate of the feelings of others. Don’t threaten, bully, hit or hurt anyone. Deal peacefully with anger, insults, or disagreements.
Trustworthiness – Be honest.  Be loyal-stand by your family, friends and country.  Don’t deceive, cheat or seal.  Be reliable-do what you say you’ll do. Have the courage to do the right thing.  Build a good reputation.
Responsibility – Do what you are supposed to do.  Persevere: keep on trying!  Always do your best.  Exercise self-control.  Be self-disciplined.  Think before you act-consider the consequences.  Be accountable for your choices.
Fairness – Play by the rules.  Take turns and share.  Don’t blame others carelessly.  Listen to others.  Don’t take advantage of others.
Caring – Be kind.  Be compassionate.  Show you care.  Express gratitude.  Forgive others.  Help people in need.
Citizenship – Do your share to make your school and community better.  Cooperate.  Stay informed; vote.  Get involved in school, church, and community programs.  Be a good neighbor.  Obey laws and rules.  Respect authority.  Protect the environment
